We're Trapped In A Moodboard

Why is everything tan and hunter green now?

@hidden.ny changed everything. Sort of a paradigm shift, but by accident.

It changed both how we interacted with IG, but it functionally changed what “culture content” (*shudders*) IS.

It was for social media what JJJJound was for blogs. A way to disseminate trends and aesthetics without the intrusion of sponsored content or the regurgitation of a corporate press release. It let everyone that followed feel IYKYK superiority to those that hadn’t caught on. The added air of mystery made it captivating. I had people offering bounties to figure out who it was and hire him/her/them/it.

And for a long time, it felt refreshingly original for something that consisted entirely of other peoples’ ideas. The curation felt special, and tasteful, and reflective of what we thought we were.

Maybe it was too successful?
