Gut Check: No More Rhinestones

Quick thoughts, insights, and reactions from Project Las Vegas

A thing about me is I love trade shows. Doesn’t even have to be one in my industry. I kinda want to go to Concrete World. I think they get a bad rep.

My brain is wired to be an anthropologist. I love people watching, walking malls, spending an entire day driving around and walking into stores, galleries, coffee shops. Whatever. It’s a reason I also unabashedly love the city of Las Vegas, and the Strip in particular. It’s like walking through Census Data with no open container laws.

Trade shows are that vibe on steroids. They provide 10,000 foot views of an industry while uncovering tiny little emerging moments that could be something soon. Beyond the product itself, you can gauge the human reactions, the connections, the VIBE that’s normally invisible is suddenly opaque and in front of you.

So as I start to figure out things for my own brand, I thought it would be valuable to head to Project Las Vegas to wander the floor and litmus test my own work, as well as what’s going on in the heart of the apparel industry, not just the cool guy fringes.

Special thanks for my friend Kevin from LRG for the pass rental.
